Skiing the Mont-Blanc, a few turns in between heaven and earth...

Difficulty

In the realm of mountaineering skiing the Mont-Blanc is a reference of “mountain” skiing, a classic climb at the end of the season like a reward. It is not an extreme climb, but the course is impressive with its technical and committed sections due to altitude. You will not come there by chance! You will have to be sensitive to the weather vagaries and watch out for the good moment before considering a large-scale descent. A spectacular sight of the most beautiful snow slopes of the Northern Alps.

Program

Appointment at 6.30 pm at the guides' office.

Day 1:
GRANDS MULETS

You will leave Chamonix before 10 am and you will get to Grands Mulets refuge (3,051 m), near three-and-a-half-hour walking from Plan de l’Aiguille cable-car. Crossing under Aiguille du Midi (the same for the return).
Overnight stay at refuge des Grands Mulets.
Difference in altitude: +740m

Day 2
MONT BLANC

From the refuge you will go to Dôme du Gouter to get to the crossing of Petit Plateau whose main danger comes from seracfalls. After a progress between the cracks a steep ascent will enable to reach Grand Plateau. You will go to Col du Dôme (4,237 m) from where a steep and icy section leads to Vallot refuge (4,362 m). To climb the last ridge hikers rarely use their skis to the summit (a delicate and exposed terrain). From Vallot refuge 2 hours will be necessary to get to the summit of Mont-Blanc. The descent will be made via the same route as for the ascent until Grands Mulets then until Plan de l’Aiguille.
Difference in altitude: + 1760m / - 2500m.

Climbing: D1 + D2 / 740m + 1760m - Descent: 2500m
Duration: D1 : 3H30 - D2 : 8h30

The guides could be led to change the program depending on the weather conditions, the mountains and the level of the participants.
