The Tré la Tête glacier trek takes place in a wild and often unknown setting in the Mont Blanc massif, you will climb the Mont-Tondu, the Dome of Glaciers and finally, the crossing of Domes de Miage.

Program

The day before
Appointment at 6.30 pm at the guides' office for a briefing.

Day 1 Tré-la-Tête Refuge
Appointment in the beginning of the afternoon in the village of Contamines Montjoie to go up to the Tré-la-Tête refuge (1970m).
Altitude difference: + 770m

Day 2 Mont Tondu 3196m
Departure from the refuge to reach the glacier Tré-La-Tête and the Tondu glacier. We go along the crest of Pain de Sucre (3169m) in rock a rock setting, to reach the summit of Mont-Tondu (3196m). Then return on the Tondu pass (2895m) and we spend the night at Robert Blanc refuge (2750m) which is located on the Bourg Saint Maurice side.
Altitude difference: + 1226m / - 450m

Day 3 Dôme de Neige des Glaciers 3592m
From the refuge, we walk to reach the glacier wich we go up to climb the Dôme de Neige des Glaciers (3592m). Beautiful wild snow itinerary, unobstructed view of the Tré-La-Tête basin. Return by the same way to sleep again at Robert Blanc refuge.
Altitude difference: + 842m / - 842m

Day 4 Col du Tondu 2895m
Passing the Tondu Pass (2895m) and descent on the Tré-la-Tête glacier to sleep at the Refuge des Conscrits (2602m).
Altitude difference: + 150m / - 293m

Day 5 Dômes de Miage
Ascent of Domes de miage by going up the top of the glacier Tré-la-Tête and Col des Domes. A classic! Beautiful snow ridge facing Mont Blanc. Back down the valley.
Altitude difference: + 1170m / - 2500m

The guides could be led to change the program depending on the weather conditions, the mountains and the level of the participants.

Requirements

It’s recommended you already have hiking experience (mid-range mountains). The climb requires a good training and is addressed to sports people. You’ll be walking for between 6 and 9 hours per day, so you’ll have to prepare and practice cardio during your endurance trainings.
(biking, running, hiking in the mountains …)
Don’t forget that you’ll be walking with a 8 kilograms backpack, this increases the amount of effort needed to walk, be sure to be training with this extra weight.

1 guide for 4 participants the first 4 days, 1 extra guide for the Dômes de Miage crossing.
Group sessions: departure from 4 participants.
You will be supervised by a mountain guide

To register, fill out and send back the registration form, dated and signed with a 30% deposit and the amount of the optional insurance. The balance will be due 60 days prior to departure.

Insurance

To be covered by an insurance «assistance-repatriation» is mandatory to participate in our stays.
If you do not have «assistance-repatriation» insurance, we can offer you one at the price of €5 per day.
We also offer optional «cancellation» insurance at the price of €12 per day. This insurance does not take into account the sporting character of our stays.

You have an appointment with the guides the day before departure at the guidesoffice of Saint-Gervais (in the tourist office) in the center of the village at 6.30 pm. Our address: 43 rue du Mont Blanc, 74170 Saint Gervais les Bains

If you are unable to attend, please call us around the same time so the briefing can be done by phone.

  • Cap and scarf or buff®
  • Thermal underwear, long sleeves and short sleeves
  • Fleece jacket or thick down jacket to have in the bag
  • Lighter fleece jacket or down jacket
  • Gore Tex® jacket (ski jacket is not suitable) water- and windproof
  • Thermal underwear tights
  • Gore Tex® water- and windproof pants
  • Warm socks

 

Essential equipment:

  • Glacier sunglasses (cat. 4)
  • Ski goggles
  • Cap
  • Headlight and batteries
  • 2 pairs of gloves: a light one and a warmer pair
  • A sleeping bag liner (no need for a sleeping bag) / slippers
  • Sunscreen for body, face and lips
  • Thermos flask or water bottle (0.5 L minimum) and energy bars or dried fruit
  • Small personal first-aid kit (aspirin, compeed®, earplugs)
  • Identity papers, insurance and some cash for in the hut

Summary
