You will discover two mythical glacial basins: Argentière and the Glacier du Tour. Ski touring Tête Blanche is very suitable for a first experience in itinerant ski touring. It is accessible even for people who have never done ski touring. All you need is a good experience of skiing in all types of snow.

The day before

Appointment at 6.30 pm at the guides' office to meet with the guide.

Day 1
Col de la Cicle (2377 m)

Departure from the village of Les Contamines (1210 m) where you will take the ski lifts. To the top of the Roselette ski lift (2115 m) then down south under the Aiguille de Roselette. Further down, we put the skins on our skis and go up a to Col de la Cicle (2377 m) or Col de la Fenêtre. Beautiful descent to la Balme and Nant Borrant (1452 m) and then we climb to the Tré-la-Tête refuge (1970 m) by Combe Noire.
Elevation: + 262m / - 925m / + 518m

Day 2
Mont Tondu (3196 m)

Departure from the refuge for the summit of Mont Tondu (3196 m). We cross and descend the "mauvais pas" in order to get on the Tré-la-Tête glacier, and to go up over the seracs of Tré-la-Grande. Crossing the glacier to reach the slopes of the Mont Tondu glacier. Then we join the pass at 3050m under the Pain de Sucre. Descent via Lacs Jovets.
Elevation: + 1200m / -1890m

Group sessions: weekends from mid-March to May depending on snow conditions.
Private sessions: departure possible every day.

4 people maximum per guide.

You will be supervised by a mountain guide.

Requirements

Skiing the Mont Tondu is for good skiers in good physical shape. Passes and summits with technical difficulties. You need to have a good experience of “all snow and all terrain” skiing. You need to have some experience in skitouring Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any doubts about the required level.

You will evolve on an unmarked high mountain route, you must be aware of the dangers associated with this activity (crevasses, falling seracs, falling rocks, avalanches, very low temperatures).

Insurance

To be covered by an insurance «assistance-repatriation» is mandatory to participate in our stays. If you do not have «assistance-repatriation» insurance, we can offer you one at the price of €5 per day. We also offer optional «cancellation» insurance at the price of €12 per day. This insurance does not take into account the sporting character of our stays. More information in the cancellation and assistance repatriation insurance booklets.

Rendezvous

Appointment at 6.30 pm at the Saint-Gervais guides' office (in the tourist office of the village) where you will meet your guide. If you cannot be present, the briefing can be done by phone. More details about how to travel by public transportation can be found on our "contact" page.

Equipment list

Technical equipment

  • Backpack with ski carrying system and sufficient capacity (± 35/40 liters)
  • Lightweight touring skis with clean sole and crampons suitable for bindings
  • Self-adhesive skins cut 5 cm from the heel of the ski
  • Wax (OXO) and glue (Colle Tex) for re-glueing the skins
  • Ski touring boots. Protect the friction areas (heels, ...) with Compeed from day one.
  • Ski poles with large washers
  • Harness and carabiner (screw)
  • A pair of crampons
