Ski touring Dômes de miage by the prés refuge

This short ski tour by Dômes de miage and les prés refuge will allow you to discover our "garden" in three days through several peaks, Mont Tondu and the Dômes de Miage, and two superb refuges: the brand new Prés (meadows) refuge and the Conscrits. We will ski beautiful slopes, cross ridges, glaciers and spend evenings in these superb comfortable and very welcoming refuges.

The day before
Appointment at 6:30 pm at the guides office of Saint Gervais where you will meet your guide.

Day 1
COL DES CHASSEURS 2500M

Meet at 8:15 am in front of the the Notre-Dame de la Gorge gondola for a first equipment check and safety instructions.
Departure from the top of the ski lifts of Les Contamines to reach the Col de la Cicle then by a ridge crossing with a little use of crampons we go to the Col des Chasseurs (2500m). Descent of its beautiful northern slope towards the valley of la Balme and night at the new and very comfortable refuge des Prés (1937m).
Difference in altitude: + 600m, -700m
Duration: 5h to 6h

Day 2
"PAIN DE SUCRE" OR TONDU 3169M

Beautiful and long alpine stage: we will climb towards the Jovets lakes and then reach Tondu (3169m) by a beautiful steep slope. Descent on the Tré-la-Tête glacier then a last effort to reach the refuge of the Conscrits (2602m).
Difference in altitude: +1600m, -800m
Duration: 6a.m. to 8a.m.

Day 3
DOMES DE MIAGE

Ascent of the Tré-la-Tête glacier towards the Col Infranchissable and then the Col des Dômes. We go up the snowy ridge of the Dômes de Miage (3670m) followed by the superb descent of the Armancette glacier and its 2400m of altitude difference to the village of Les Contamines.
Difference in altitude: + 1100m, -24000m
Duration: 6h to 8h

The guides could be led to change the program depending on the weather conditions, the mountains and the level of the participants.

In private: every day from mid-December to the end of April depending on the conditions and availability at the refuge.

Price of the group session:

Private sessions:

  • Supervision by a mountain guide

Guiding

2 people per guide maximum.
Guaranteed departure in group sessions from 2 subscriptions.
You will be supervised by a mountain guide.

Requirements

For good skiers in good physical shape. Passes and summits presenting some technical difficulties.

Experience of ski touring and good technical level for all snow and all terrain required (level class 3 ESF minimum).
The experience of a first high mountain climb is a plus (snow races between F and PD). Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any doubt about the level required.

You will evolve on an unmarked high mountain route, you must be aware of the dangers associated with this activity (crevasses, falling seracs, falling rocks, avalanches, very low temperatures).

Insurance

To be covered by an insurance «assistance-repatriation» is mandatory to participate in our stays. If you do not have «assistance-repatriation» insurance, we can offer you one at the price of €15 (5€/day). We also offer optional «cancellation» insurance at the price of €36 (€12/day). This insurance does not take into account the sporting character of our stays. More information in the cancellation and assistance repatriation insurance booklets.

Rendezvous

Appointment at 6.30 pm at the Saint-Gervais guides' office (in the tourist office of the village) where you will meet your guide. If you cannot be present, the briefing can be done by phone. More details about how to travel by public transportation can be found on our "contact" page.

Equipment list

Technical equipment

  • Backpack with ski carrying system and sufficient capacity (± 35/40 liters)
  • Lightweight touring skis with clean sole and crampons suitable for bindings
  • Skins adapted to the width of the skis and properly glued
  • Ski touring boots. Protect the friction areas (heels, ...) with Compeed from day one.
  • Ski poles with large washers
  • Avalanche beacon, shovel and probe
