FOR THE NIGHT AT MIAGE

The day before: Appointment at 6.30 pm at the guides' office where you will meet your guide.

Day 1 Night at Miage refuge

Departure from Champel in the early afternoon. After an ascent to the forest via a nice balcony path which overlooks La Gruvaz gorges, you will reach Miage small valley and its mountain chalets. That greenery setting with its streams, where you will spend the night, stands at the feet of the imposing Dômes de Miage !
Difference in altitude of 450 m – 3-hour walking.

Day 2 Tricot pastures and Bionnassay glacier

What a beautiful regular ascent to Col du Tricot where an imposing landscape opens up to you ! You will then get to the suspension bridge of Bionnassay glacier via a descent through the round nature of Tricot high mountain pastures ! After that nice detour you will go on going down into the forest from waterfalls to waterfalls to come back to Champel.
Difference in altitude of + 600 m / 950 m – 6-hour walking.

FOR THE MORE EXPERIENCED: NIGHT AT PLAN GLACIER

The day before : Appointment at 6.30 pm at the guides' office where you will meet your guide.

Day 1 Night at Plan Glacier

Departure from Champel in the early morning to get to Col du Tricot via the suspension bridge of Bionnassay glacier where a splendid view on Dômes and Miage small valley opens up to you. You will take the exposed balcony path of Source au Comte which is equipped with some cables to help you progress to Dômes de Miage. You will not forget the night spent at Plan-Glacier refuge of only about 20 beds!
Difference in height of + 1,600 m/ -100 m – 6-hour walking.

Day 2 Myrtilles tart

Descent to Miage high mountain pastures via Ours moraine where the blueberry tarts of the refuge will try to charm you! After the picnic you will follow a balcony path which overlooks La Gruvaz gorges to get to Champel.
Difference in altitude of + 100 m/ -1,500 m – 5-hour walking.

The elevations and walking times are approximate and may vary! The guides could be led to change the programme depending on the weather conditions, the mountains and the level of the participants.

Requirements

For a hiker in good physical condition, with no medical contraindication to walking in the mountains, with a backpack. Ideal first experience of itinerant hiking. Rocky and maybe even snowy surfaces are to be expected. Between 4 and 6 hours of walking per day, rocky and maybe even snowy surfaces are to be expected. Backpack with your luggage and your picknick.

Guiding

10 people maximum per guide (12 for groups) for the night at Miage, and 8 people for the night at Plan Glacier.
You will be supervised by a hiking guide.
Guaranteed departure from 6 people

You can register either in the "registration" section on this page, or by sending us the completed, dated and signed registration form accompanied by a 30% deposit and the amount of optional insurance.

Insurance

To be covered by an insurance «assistance-repatriation» is mandatory to participate in our stays. If you do not have «assistance-repatriation» insurance, we can offer you one at the price of €10 (€5/day). We also offer optional «cancellation» insurance at the price of €24 (€12/day). This insurance does not take into account the sporting character of our stays. More information in the cancellation and assistance repatriation insurance booklets.

Rendezvous

Appointment at 6.30 pm at the Saint-Gervais guides' office (in the tourist office of the village) where you will meet your guide. If you cannot be present, the briefing can be done by phone. More details about how to travel by public transportation can be found on our "contact" page.

Equipment list

Clothing:

  • High shaft hiking shoes with notched sole (low shoes do not protect the ankle and are to be avoided)
  • Hiking socks
  • 1 shorts + 1 hiking pants
  • T-shirts (tip: avoid cotton - choose breathable, quick drying, synthetic material)
  • 1 fleece
  • 1 hooded waterproof jacket (breathable, Gore-Tex or equivalent)
  • cap or bob / sunglasses / sunscreen / lip stick
  • cap or headband / buff
  • fleece gloves

 

Accessories:

  • comfortable backpack with belt and good carrying system (45L maximum) for the day
  • flask or camelbag (choose light materials or solid plastic bottles)
  • knife / spoon / cup
  • something to snack on: dried fruits (sweet/salty), cereal bars, ...
  • sleeping bag liner (blankets are provided by the hut)
  • mini hygiene kit: soap + lightweight towel + toothpaste + toothbrush + kleenex + wipes
  • plastic bags for garbage or to protect your stuff in case it rains
  • headlight (1 per 2 people, with fresh batteries)
  • 2 hiking poles (telescopic)
  • Masks and hand gel
  • flip-flops or light sandals for the evening

 

Personal medication kit:

  • earplugs
  • bandages and bandages for blisters (type "compeed")
  • medicines for: pain and fever / digestive problems / anti-inflammatory
