This less technical version to discover Monte Rosa is aimed at larger groups or less experienced people. It nevertheless allows you to climb 2 peaks exceeding the famous altitude of 4000 meters.

Program

The day before
Appointment with the guide at 6:30 pm at the guides office of Saint Gervais.

Day 1 CERVINIA – REFUGE LAMBRONECCA
Transport from St Gervais to Cervinia by car (2h30). Cable-car to Plateau Rosa. Ascent of Breithorn (4,165 m). Descent to Guides du Val d’Ayas refuge (3,400 m).
Overnight stay at Lambronecca - val d'Ayas
Difference in height of + 300 m - 756 m.

Day 2 OFF-PISTE DAY
Descent to Saint Jacques. Off-piste skiing between Val d’Ayas and Val de Gressoney.
Night at Nordend hotel in Staffal (Gressonney).
Ski pass for a day.

Day 3 OFF-PISTE DAY
Off-piste skiing between Gressoney and Alagna. Ascent to Mantova refuge with skins.

Day 4 GNIFETTI ASCENT
Ascent to Pointe Gnifetti (4,557 m) via Col du Lys. Splendid descent of 2,000-meter difference in height onto Grenzgletscher until Mt-Rose refuge (Bétemps) (2,795 m).
Difference in height of + 1,157 m - 1,762 m.

Day 5 CIMA DI JAZZI ASCENT
Ascent of Cima di Jazzi (3,804 m), descent to Zermatt via Findelgletscher. You will come back with the cable-cars and go down to Cervinia.
Difference in height of + 1,009 m - 2,204 m.

The differences in height for the descents are not counted up in all the “off-piste” sections. They depend on the snow conditions and on the level of the participants.

The guides could be led to change the program depending on the weather conditions, the mountains and the level of the participants.

Departures on Sundays March 19, April 2 and 16.
Possible departures every day for private groups, depending on the availability in the huts.

If you are alone and want to benefit of a better price, you can choose the group formula.

Requirements

For good skiers in good physical shape. Passes and summits with technical difficulties. You need to have some experience in skitouring and be able to ski on all types of snow.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the required level.
You will evolve on an unmarked mountain route, you must be aware of the dangers associated with this activity (glacier crevasses, serac falls, rock falls, avalanches, very low temperatures).
We are available to answer your questions.

Our assets

  • We carry the minimum of picnics on our backs, we have them prepared by the hut staff.
  • (bottled) water in the huts is included
  • We prefer small groups

Registration

You can register either in the "registration" section on this page, or by sending us the completed, dated and signed registration form accompanied by a 30% deposit and the amount e at the price of €24 (€12/day). This insurance does not take into account the sporting character of our stays. More information in the cancellation and assistance repatriation insurance booklets.

Rendezvous

Appointment at 6.30 pm at the Saint-Gervais guides' office (in the tourist office of the village) where you will meet your guide. If you cannot be present, the briefing can be done by phone. More details about how to travel by public transportation can be found on our "contact" page.

Equipment list

Technical equipment

  • Backpack with ski carrying system and sufficient capacity (± 35/40 liters)
  • Lightweight touring skis with clean sole and crampons suitable for bindings
  • Skins adapted to the width of the skis and properly glued
  • Ski touring boots. Protect the friction areas (heels, ...) with Compeed from day one.
  • Ski poles with large washers
  • Avalanche beacon, shovel and probe
