Departing from Pointe Helbronner (3462 m) in Italy. Winter glacier hike on snowshoes at high altitude among the most impressive peaks of the massif. Ideal for a first discovery of roped walking: an experience that will take your breath away.

The day before: Appointment at 6.30 pm at the guides' office of Saint Gervais.

Day 1 : Glacier hike on snowshoes

Departure from St-Gervais in the morning to get to Entrèves village (1,350 m) in Italy (near 50 minutes by car). From there you will take Pointe Helbronner cable-car (3,462 m), you will enjoy a nice walk into Combe maudite and you will go to the feet of Tour Ronde. That mountaineering glacial snowshoeing hiking is perfectly suitable for a first experience.

A snow climb. You will come back with the cable-cars in the afternoon.

The guides could be led to change the program depending on the weather conditions, the mountains and the level of the participants.

  • Transportation from Saint Gervais to Entrèves in Italy

Requirements

You need to be in good shape. Endurance sports such as cycling, running or long walks are an ideal preparation. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Insurance

Being covered by repatriation insurance is mandatory to participate in our activities: it must cover you in the high mountains for helicopter search and rescue.

If you do not have repatriation insurance, we can offer it at a cost of €5/day. We also offer optional cancellation insurance at a rate of €12/day. This insurance does not take consider the sporting nature of our activities and only covers people domiciled in Western Europe (details of the countries are in the brochure).

Rendezvous

Appointment at 6.30 pm at the Saint-Gervais guides' office (in the tourist office of the village) where you will meet your guide. If you cannot be present, the briefing can be done by phone. More details about how to travel by public transportation can be found on our "contact" page.

Equipment list

Technical equipment:

  • Helmet (provided)
  • 25 / 30 Liters backpack
  • Hiking poles with washers (provided)
  • Harness with locking carabiner (provided)
  • Mountaineering shoes (available for rental in the local stores)
  • Snowshoes (provided)
  • Avalanche beacon (provided)

 

Clothing:

  • Beanie and buff or cap for the sun
  • Modern fibre underwear, long sleeves
  • Thick fleece jacket or down jacket for the bottom of the bag in case of low temperatures
  • Lighter fleece jacket or down jacket
  • Gore Tex jacket® (ski jacket is not suitable)
  • Modern fibre sports tights
  • Gore Tex® pants
  • Warm socks

 

Essential equipment:

  • Cat. 4 sunglasses
  • A pair of warm gloves
  • Sunscreen and very high protection lip screen
  • Energy bars + water bottle or thermos
  • Picnic
  • Small personal first-aid kit (aspirin, blister bandages)
  • Passport and insurance
