2 Days freeski around Mont Joly : discover the secret off-piste tracks and enjoy a night in a refuge at the foot of Mont-Joly.

The day before

Appointment at 6.30 pm at the guides' office where you will meet your guide.

Day 1

Appointment at the departure of the lifts of Saint-Gervais. To the top of the ski area by the ski lifts and after a first descent off-piste we put on the skins to access the summit of Mont-Joly highest point of the ski area. Descent on the Planay to join the lifts of Rochebrune to go to the top of the ski area Cote 2000. From there, we descend into the Very valley then put on seal skins to climb towards the Col de la Croix de Pierre . Before arriving at the ridge, we reach a gap at 2015m to switch to the Hauteluce slope and finish with a final descent to the Ferme des Liaudes to spend the evening and night. Depending on the conditions, off-piste routes can be changed while respecting the planned route loop.

Day 2

Departure from the Croix de Pierre refuge for an off-piste descent towards the small village of Belleville on the Hauteluce ski area. Gondola lift to the Col du Joly in Contamines. We put on the skins for a departure to Col de la Cicle. Possibility of climbing one of the three passes of the area, according to the conditions and the level of the participants.

Good to know, the col de la fenêtre is the easiest, cicle is intermediate and Col des Chasseurs is the most advanced. Descent from the summit of the pass in the Bonhomme valley towards the Balme refuge and the village of Notre-Dame-de-la-Gorge Contamines. Shuttle transfer to the starting point in Saint-Gervais and debriefing with the guides of Saint-Gervais.

The guides could be led to change the program depending on the weather conditions, the mountains and the level of the participants.

2024 Dates

Group sessions: every Thursday depending on the conditions and the availability in the hut.
Private sessions: every day from December to March depending on the conditions and the availability in the hut.

Guiding

6 people per guide maximum.

You will be supervised by a mountain guide.

Requirements

For good skiers in good physical shape. You need to have some experience in off-piste skiing. Passes and summits presenting some technical difficulties. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any doubt about the level required.

Vous évoluerez sur un itinéraire hors domaine skiable, non balisé : vous devez être conscients des dangers liés à cette activité (chutes de corniche, chutes de pierres, avalanches, températures très basses).

Insurance

To be covered by an insurance «assistance-repatriation» is mandatory to participate in our stays. If you do not have «assistance-repatriation» insurance, we can offer you one at the price of €5 per day. We also offer optional «cancellation» insurance at the price of €12 per day. This insurance does not take into account the sporting character of our stays. More information in the cancellation and assistance repatriation insurance booklets.

Rendezvous

Appointment at 6.30 pm at the Saint-Gervais guides' office (in the tourist office of the village) where you will meet your guide. If you cannot be present, the briefing can be done by phone. More details about how to travel by public transportation can be found on our "contact" page.

  • Backpack with ski-carrying feature (± 45 litres)
  • Touring skis
  • Knives suitable for bindings
  • Ski touring boots. It is essential to protect the areas of friction (heels, ...)
  • Avalanche beacon, shovel and probe
  • Self-adhesive skins cut 5 cm from the heel of the ski
  • Ski poles with large washers
  • Beanie or hood + headband and scarf or cap for the sun
  • Glacier sunglasses (cat.4)
