Program

Detailed program for the ascent of Dome des Glaciers and Mont Tondu.

The day before

Meeting at 6.30PM in the office of Saint Gervais where you will meet your guide.

Day 1
Climb to the Robert Blanc mountain hut (2750m)

From the parking lot of the Lanchettes in the Chapieux valley we reach the Robert Blanc mountain hut via a beautiful path. If there are still snow remnants, part of the afternoon can be spent on a small snow training or training on rocky terrain near the mountain hut.
Elevation +800 m / 3 hours

Day 2
Dôme des Glaciers (3592m)

We leave towards the moraines of the Glacier des Glaciers and depending on the conditions and the level of the group we have the choice between: the ridge of the Lanchettes, or the glacier, to reach the top of the Dôme des Glaciers with its breathtaking view of the Tré la Tête basin. The descent goes along this beautiful glacier and then the path to return to the mountain hut.
Altitude difference + 900 m / -900m / 7 hours

Day 3
Le "Pain de Sucre" of mont Tondu (3169m)

We reach the Col du Tondu via a winding path, equipped with cables, and then the Pain de sucre via the Tondu glacier or through the less accessible east ridge. Depending on the number of participants, a loop can be made via the ridge and Mont Tondu. The normal descent goes via the same route and so we return to the valley, after a hearty meal in the mountain hut.
Altitude difference + 450m / –1200m / 6-7 hours

The guides could be led to change the program depending on the weather conditions, the mountains and the level of the participants.

Requirements

A little experience in mountaineering is an advantage, but this program is also suitable for beginners. A very good physical preparation is necessary for this climb, it is aimed at sporty people. You will have to walk up to 8 hours a day, so you need to prepare yourself by practicing "cardio" sports during long sessions. Endurance sports such as cycling, running or long walks are an ideal preparation.
Also remember that you will be hiking for 3 days with an 8-kilo backpack, which significantly increases the effort required, so if you do go out, exercise with that extra weight.

You will evolve on an unmarked high mountain route, you must be aware of the dangers associated with this activity (crevasses, falling seracs, falling rocks, avalanches, very low temperatures).

We are at your disposal to answer your questions.

Guiding

3 people maximum per guide.
Guaranteed departure in group sessions from 2 subscriptions.
You will be supervised by a UIAGM-certified mountain guide or mountain guide in training.

To be covered by an insurance «assistance-repatriation» is mandatory to participate in our stays. If you do not have «assistance-repatriation» insurance, we can offer you one at the price of €5 per day. We also offer optional «cancellation» insurance at the price of €12 per day. This insurance does not take into account the sporting character of our stays. More information in the cancellation and assistance repatriation insurance booklets.
