Sunday
Departure
by car from St Gervais in direction of St Jacques in the vale of Ayas, the
departure point of the tour.
Taxi up to Pian Di Verra where we continue on foot up to the Guide
d’Ayas mountain refuge (3425m), passing by the Mezzalama refuge (3002m).
Monday
Ascent
(and descent) of the Pollux (4091m), passing by the upper part of the Di Verra
glacier.
Return to the Guide d’Ayas refuge for
a second night.
This ascent presents no particular problems. It consists of a mixed climb
(snow and ice)
and a pretty snow-covered ridge at the end.
Tuesday
After
the Pollux, we will traverse the Castor (4425m). We
will then go up to the summit to finish with a superb snow ridge and magnificent
views.
Overnight stay in the Quintino Sella mountain refuge (3584m).
Wednesday
Traverse
of the Naso del Lyskamm (4200m), the most technical passage of the tour
(depending on the conditions). Leaving
from the Quintino Sella refuge, we will traverse under the south face of the
Lyskamm on a beautiful glacial plateau. We
go back up the Naso to discover the vast Mont Rose landscape spread out before
us. The panorama is simply
stunning. From there, we descend
and traverse the Lys glacier and head for the Cita Di Mantova mountain refuge
(3498m) where we will spend the night.
Thursday
We
retrace yesterday’s steps to visit the highest mountain refuge in Europe, the
Cabane Margherita (4556m) or the Zumstein (4563m), depending on both weather and
the group’s physical condition. This
is a long but technically easy stage of the tour. We then go down to the
Guglielmina mountain hut (2900m) for a last night in a mountain refuge, in the
heart of mountain goat country.
Friday
The
final stage is a leisurely one among the alpine meadows.
After descending to Gressonney, we take a path up to the gondola lift to
Bettaforca (2971m) then take a pretty mountain trail to St Jacques where we
rejoin the car
.
Physical
condition

level of technical mountaineering is required (use of crampons, walking roped-up)
