A good preparation is necessary, this climb is meant for sportive people. Prepare yourself practicing “cardio” endurance sports like biking, hiking and running. Don’t forget that you’ll be walking with a 8kg backpack at high altitude, which is more physical than without, so don’t forget to train with the extra weight.
The previous day
Appointment at 6.30 pm at the guides’ office.
Departure early in the morning from St-Gervais to Courmayeur (Italy, 40 minutes by car). From there, we take the gondola to Pointe Helbronner (3535m). This allows easy access to the Glacier du Géant, to reache the ridge of Aiguilles Marbrées. Depending on the conditions, this race can be done in back and forth or a tour. We learn the basic techniques of mountaineering smoothly (snow and rock). The setting is great, between the Ridge of Rochefort to the Grandes Jorasses and the Ridge of Peuterey to Mont Blanc! … The return is by the gondola, in the early afternoon.
The guides could be led to change the programme depending on the weather conditions, the mountains and the level of the participants.
